Easy, Emergency-Ready Dosing for Infants to Adults
It's important to take ThyroShield™ Potassium Iodide Oral Solution as instructed by your public officials. ThyroShield works best if taken before exposure. It can still be beneficial when taken up to several hours after exposure.
-
If you are told to take this medicine:
- Take it one time every 24 hours.
- Do not take it more often than once in 24 hours.
- Taking more KI (potassium iodide) than recommended by the dosing chart will not help you.
- Too much KI may increase the chances of side effects.
The following dosing chart is a brief summary of the dosing directions. See the ThyroShield Consumer Package Insert for complete dosing information, side effects, and warnings.

Pregnant or Breastfeeding Women, Babies Under 1 Month of Age
Take as directed in the Consumer Package Insert
and call a doctor as soon as possible. Repeat dosing should be avoided. It is recommended that thyroid function be
checked in babies less than 1 month of age that take ThyroShield or other KI products. Women who are pregnant or
breastfeeding should also be checked by a doctor if repeated dosing is necessary. Although these precautions should be
taken, the benefits of short-term use of ThyroShield or other KI products to block uptake of radioactive iodine by
the thyroid gland far exceed its chances of side effects.
Patients with Thyroid Disease
If you have both a nodular thyroid condition such as multinodular goiter with heart disease, you should not take
ThyroShield or other KI products. Patients with other thyroid conditions may take ThyroShield or
other KI products as directed in the Consumer
Package Insert, but call a doctor if you need to take ThyroShield or other KI products for more than a few days.
Iodine Allergies
Do not take this medicine if you know you are allergic to iodine.
